Linen has always been one of my favorite fabrics for this time of the year. It’s comfortable, it’s breathable, and linen clothes always look so dang effortless. Today’s post is all about linen clothes for summer. I’m rounding up some of my favorite linen pieces and sharing why linen is a must-have fabric for the heat.

What is linen?
There are lots of fabrics out there, and even as someone who loves fashion, I occasionally have to do a quick Google search on what’s what. So, here’s the skinny on what makes linen, well, linen.
- Just like cotton, linen is a natural fiber, but it’s made from flax instead of a cotton plant
- Linen has some subtle texture in it because the weave of linen is generally looser to that of cotton
- Linen has natural water-wicking qualities, meaning it draws water (or sweat) away from the body
- Due to the hallow flax fibers, linen is highly breathable and perfect for warm weather
Even linen-blend pieces work for summer, since there’s a mix of those breathable hallow fabrics in the material.

I definitely don’t own a ton of linen cloths for summer, but each year I do try to add a few staples into rotation for those days when I just need something easy and breezy:
