My Favorite Sezane Essentials

If you follow me on Instagram, it’s no secret how much I love the French clothing retailer Sézane. I have been shopping the brand for a few years now and have collected dozens of pieces from them over time.

One of my favorite things about Sézane is that although the brand introduces new items and colors each season, they also stick to best-selling styles and timeless silhouettes year-round. Many of these pieces have become crucial foundational pieces in my wardrobe, and I find myself wearing them often, season after season, with other items in my closet.

I am often asked about my favorite Sézane essentials, so I’m rounding up my most worn items in this post with sizing info for each.

About Sézane

Sézane is a Parisian-born fashion label, and over the years has become synonymous with high-quality, classic pieces. Created in 2013 by Morgane Sézalory, nearly all Sézane items are designed with versatility in mind, so you’ll find several closet staples that work for building a timeless capsule wardrobe, as well as essentials you can mix and match with trends as they come and go. I am a big believer in having high-quality essentials in your closet to serve as the meat and potatoes of your wardrobe, and all of these items in my own closet are from Sézane.

Sézane is a certified B Corporation and produces smaller runs of products to lower their manufacturing footprint. Although items can sell out quickly, many of their French hero items (and nearly all of my favorite essentials) are available in classic colors throughout the year.

My Favorite Sézane Essentials

Max Shirt

An oversized button-down shirt is a closet essential, and Sézane has truly mastered the perfect one. I own the Max Shirt in a few iterations, including classic white, light blue, and stripes.

This is a great shirt that looks good tucked into wide leg jeans or worn untucked with slimmer bottoms. Dress it up or down or wear it with sandals, sneakers, or heels.

I vacillate between a 4 and 6 in the Max Shirt depending on how oversized I want it to fit.

The Max Shirt in white is one of my most worn Sézane essentials.

Loulou Trousers

I’m a big fan of wide-leg trousers and wear them nearly year-round. The Loulou Trousers were one of the first pants I ever tried from the brand, and they’ve remained my favorite cut ever since.

Style these casually with the Conrad T-Shirt or try one of the brand’s sweaters to dress them up a bit. See more ways to style wide leg trousers here.

I’m between a 4 and 6 in bottoms and I size up to a 6 in the Loulou Trousers.

Gaspard Cardigan

The Gaspard Cardigan is probably one of Sézane’s most popular essential pieces. They are well-known for their knits, and always carry several colors of this sweater at once.

This is a classic crewneck cardigan, but you can also wear it backward so that the buttons aren’t in front – you can see how it looks styled like this on the Sézane website.

I have a couple of colors of the Gaspard Cardigan and wear it buttoned, open with a tee under it, and even thrown over my shoulders as a third piece on mild weather days.

I also love the Barry Cardigan, which is the same fit, but with a V-neck instead of a crewneck cut. I wear a medium in both sweater styles.

Le Crop Jeans

I have a love-hate relationship with Sézane jeans, but that’s only because most of the styles don’t fit my shape. However, the Le Crop jean is one that does fit me, and it’s a pair that I wear often.

I’ve tried several other jean styles from the brand, and while I haven’t personally had much luck with them, that doesn’t mean these aren’t great jeans. As someone who worked in the denim industry for several years, I’ll be the first to vouch for the quality and fantastic, classic washes. I am vicariously living through anyone who does fit into their jeans!

I’m a size 4/6 in jeans (between a 27 or 28) and I wear US 6/FR 38 in the Le Crop style. If you’re between sizes, I suggest selecting the larger size.

Will Jacket

I love the Will Jacket so much that I own it in brown suede and in blue denim.

This is a mix between a barn jacket and a shirt jacket, and it’s just a simple and timeless casual layer that works for spring and fall.

I prefer more of an oversized fit, so I wear a medium in the Will Jacket.

Claude Bag

I love Sézane leather bags. So much so, that I own four of them! I’m a huge fan of the brand’s leather bags because they’re made in either Portugal or Italy and are extremely high quality but with a lower price tag than other similar style leather bags by other designers.

I have a couple of Mini Milo bags, but the Claude Bag has become an everyday favorite over the last year for me. It has a small profile but is larger than the Mini Milo and fits a bit more.

Although the Claude Bag is on the smaller side, it still fits all the essentials I need: my card case, keys, lip gloss, phone, and a pair of sunglasses tucked in right at the top.

Mederick Coat

If I didn’t already have a Burberry trench coat, I’d definitely own Sézane’s iconic Clyde trench coat. Instead, I have the Mederick Coat, which is a long wool belted coat that they bring back each year in different colors. I wear a size US 6.

This coat looks great worn casually over jeans, and since it has a sleek and simple silhouette, it also works over trousers and dresses for nighttime.

Christie Jacket

The Christie Jacket from Sézane is a perfect classic blazer that they stock year-round in many colors. It’s a straight fit, and not too oversized or tailored.

I wear a US 6/FR 38 because I like my blazers to have a little space so I can wear something a little bulky under them when it’s cool outside.

This blazer is polished but effortless, and when I want to dress it down I wear it with a plain t-shirt and jeans.

Conrad T-Shirt

I’m always on the hunt for the perfect t-shirt, and Sézane makes one of my favorite classic cuts. The Conrad T-shirt is a great option if you’re looking for a tee that isn’t fitted and just a tad oversized. It’s made from organic cotton but it has some structure to it, so it’s a bit nicer than flimsier tissue style tees.

I size up in these to a medium so that they fit like how they do on the model.
