Mojito cocktails have long been a favorite of mine for their refreshing taste and simple yet satisfying ingredients. With just a few key ingredients—mint, fresh limes, rum, club soda, and sugar—a classic mojito is the epitome of a summer drink. It’s perfect for lounging by the pool or enjoying with friends at a backyard barbecue. And while I love the original, I thought it could be fun to amp up the beloved traditional version by adding juicy berries into the mix.
Here’s my mixed berry mojito cocktail recipe. I promise it’s just as easy and yummy as the OG version!
Berry Mojito Cocktail Recipe
Berry Mojito Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need for this mixed berry mojito recipe:
Fresh berries – you can use raspberries, blackberries, or any other fresh berry you like. I used blackberries and strawberries for this recipe.
Fresh mint leaves – nothing can compare to the smell and flavor of fresh mint. Muddling them helps to release their essential oils. If you don’t have a cocktail muddler, you can use the back of a wooden spoon.
Simple syrup or granulated sugar – I personally just sugar, but if making simple syrup use a 1:1 ratio of sugar to water and simmer over low heat until dissolved.
White rum – Traditional mojitos use white rum. If you have dark rum on hand, or prefer it’s deeper, richer flavor, use that. If you do, I recommend using raw sugar instead of the traditional granulated kind to enhance the flavor of the dark rum.
Fresh limes – Freshly squeeze lime juice provides the perfect hint of acidity to cut through the rum and sugar.
Club soda – Since there’s already sugar from the berries, lime juice and sugar, I prefer to use club soda – which is unsweetened soda water – over tonic water.
Crushed ice
How To Make A Berry Mojito
Step 1: Muddle the Berries & Mint
Start by placing the mixed berries and mint leaves in a sturdy glass. Then add the sugar and lime juice. Using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, gently muddle the berries and mint leaves until the berries are smashed and the mint leaves are slightly bruised. This releases the flavors, along with essential oils from the mint leaves.
Step 2: Add the Ice & Rum
Once the berries and mint are nicely muddled, add a generous amount of ice to fill your glass, then the white rum. Gently stir until the ice reduces a bit and your glass starts to get icy.
Step 3: Top with Soda Water
Top off your cocktail with club soda, or unflavored, unsweetened soda water. This will add a refreshing fizz to your mixed berry mojito cocktail and help mellow out the run.
Step 5: Garnish and Serve
Garnish your mojito with a spring of fresh mint and add a few extra berries if you desire. Serve immediately and enjoy!
By adding fresh berries to the classic mojito, you not only infuse it with vibrant color, you also add a bright burst of sweet and tangy flavor that takes this cocktail to new heights.
Whether you’re hosting a summer soirée or simply unwinding on the patio after a long day, a mixed berry mojito is an easy way twist on the original that’s sure to impress.
