Oh gosh, hiii! I got back from New York Fashion Week last Sunday, had back to back freelance workdays on Monday and Tuesday, then got sick on Wednesday. Needless to say, it’s been a whirlwind past week. Starting today I’m bringing you four days of back to back posts featuring what I wore to NYFW. First up – this gorgeous polka dot dress!
- WHEN: NYFW Day 1
- WHAT: Zimmermann Polka Dot Dress, White Faux Fur Coat, Vince Patent Ankle Booties (limited sizes, shop more options at the end of this post)
- WHERE: Cinq a Sept Backstage with Oribe, Cinq a Sept Runway Show, and Pamella Roland Runway Show
I shared a little secret regarding how I get all of my NYFW content on Instagram Stories, but in case you missed it, read on.
Drumroll please… I flew in a day early to shoot all of my outfits ahead of time that I planned to wear throughout the weekend.
I do this for a couple of reasons. First, Fashion Week is always very hectic, with lots of invites that pop up at the eleventh hour. Even while on the plane heading to NYC, I was getting invites and rearranging meetings. I obviously love sharing outfits with you! So the last thing I’d want to happen is to have something get thrown off schedule with no time for photos. Days are usually packed, even running five minutes late from one thing could mess up the rest of the day. To alleviate potential stress of getting “the shots” for you – I just shoot it all at once during a dedicated block of time.
Second, as much as I would love to have someone following me around and photographing me through all of my outfit changes, I don’t have that. It’s much more economical for me to hire someone for 2 hours than bring someone along for a weekend. (Why am I telling you all of this? I’m trying to give a little more insight on “blog life” and what’s actually involved in creating content.)
Now that we got a little off topic, let’s bring it back to my outfit and the purpose of this post: my outfit. I scored this tan polka dot dress on major sale at Zimmermann.
I wasn’t even looking for another Fashion Week outfit but I happily stumbled onto this by accident. I’ve been in love with Zimmermann forever and even on sale the pieces are pricey. But with classic colors, an easy silhouette and a timeless pattern, I finally pulled the trigger. The dress comes with a waist sash in the same sheer fabric, but I opted for a black belt instead. This helped to tie in my black patent booties (and emphasized the black dots a bit more).
I was only able to find the exact dress on the brand’s website with limited sizes. But there are still some left! Zimmermann is an Australian brand so I recommend checking the size chart for US conversions. (I’m a US size 4 and wearing an AUS size 0.)
I ALSO stumbled upon this dress that looks so similar to the one I’m wearing, and it’s only $35! Go pick it up NOW.
As you can imagine, February in New York isn’t warm. There are some black tights under that full skirt and then I topped it all off with a fuzzy faux fur ivory coat.
Check back tomorrow see what I wore at night on Day 1, and in the meantime shop the look below!
