Wow! After what felt like an eternity in NYC, I am back home and hitting the ground running on all things fall and holiday content. As promised, here is a comprehensive shopping guide to what I wore to New York Fashion Week.
I tried to pack smarter this year by limiting shoes and bags and packing 2 outfits per day. Unless a designer is dressing you for a show, there’s really no need (in my opinion) to be stressing out over numerous outfit changes after every show.
A lot of invites for shows and events come at the last minute (I’m talking the day before sometimes!), but here are some tips and tricks on how to pack New York Fashion Week.
At the end of this post you’ll find a numbered guide and corresponding shoppable collage with what I wore to New York Fashion Week. Enjoy!
My Tips and Tricks for Packing
Take inventory of the shows you do have secured. If there is a show that is important or meaningful to you, dress for that one.
You don’t have to wear the designer’s pieces to a show, but you should know their overall vibe and try you best to dress accordingly. For example, I went to the Supima runway show and had a party for Shopbop later that night. Supima is a type of cotton; so wearing a party dress to the show probably wasn’t going to be the best option. I planned a specific outfit for that show (see below) then changed into my party attire after is was over.
Find accessories you can wear multiple times to save luggage space. These are your staples. Then, build your outfit from there. I had two pieces this season that were workhorse items for me: these black croc western booties, and this black waist belt. I wore them on repeat the whole weekend but worked them in to very different outfits.
Don’t dress for anyone but yourself. I’ve been taking outfit photos for 4 years now. And the outfits I’ve felt the most “me” in are not only my favorite photos, but they perform better from a business perspective. NYFW is a lot to handle. And truthfully, a lot of people throw on everything in the kitchen sink to try to get photographed. If that’s what you’re into, that’s cool. But for me, if someone takes a photo of my outfit but I don’t feel completely great in it, it’ll show in the photo.
Have fun with it. Maybe you don’t want to look like a peacock like the person I mentioned above. But, it is Fashion Week after all, so have fun! Try that hairstyle you wouldn’t ever wear (like my sleek ponytail!) or throw on that chunky gold chain necklace.
Now, let’s get into what I wore each day. At the bottom of this post, you’ll find a numbered guide and a collage with everything you see below. Click the links or the photo of the item you like to shop.
