I am all about a casual look. Most of our lives are lived in casual outfits. I was #blessed to always work at a corporate job where I didn’t have to be dressy. But even if your 9-5 outfits have to be on the dressier side, my guess is you’re not gallivanting in that pencil skirt during Saturday’s errands. But instead of reaching for leggings (I know, it’s hard) try your hand at off-duty style with this simple formula.
First up on the off-duty style menu: a pair of effortless jeans. They can’t be too baggy, but they can’t be too tight either.
I discovered AGOLDE last year when I was looking for 100% cotton, no stretch jeans. I landed on this pair, called Riley, which is a high-rise straight leg style. They’ve easily become one of my most worn pair of jeans. The light wash makes these a bit more casual than dark denim, and the straight cut is easy to wear. I pair these jeans with everything; they even make a blouse look instantly cooler due to the of-the-moment “mom jean” silhouette.
Since I’m 5’4” I tend to cuff them when wearing flat shoes, but can easily wear them full length if I want with heels. I just personally like the cuff because I like when jeans hit at or just above my ankle. Like I mentioned, there’s no stretch, I went up a size. The cut is straight to the body without being too tight or too loose, so there’s room in them without being a boyfriend jean.

Next, you need a cool girl sweatshirt. Let me be super clear here when I say that your ratty hoodie for the gym won’t do here. Fashion sweatshirts are having a thing thanks to the ever-present athleisure trend. I used to think that spending more than $60 for a sweatshirt was stupid, but I have to say then even on days when I do skip jeans for leggings, I look a lot more put together when I’m wearing a fashion sweatshirt. This one by Anine Bing is almost sold out (in fact it might be by the time this post goes live), and it’s fun to wear while being warm, stylish, and comfy all at once. I love all of her stuff but it all sells out so quickly, so just in case, here’s another black sweatshirt I love by her.
Finally, add your finishing touches. Your booties don’t need to be as extra as these snakeskin ones (currently only $90!), but they should be comfortable to walk in. Obviously a heel here defeats the point of easy, off-duty style, so I’d recommend something flat or low. I love a pointed to silhouette because they are one trend, but also just so flattering.
I’m wearing this structured satchel because I thought it added a nice contrast to the look. There is a strap on this bag, but I love holding it by the handle. Don’t forget the sunglasses! No off-duty look is complete without them. This affordable pair by Le Specs are just oversized enough without being obnoxious.
