I am an absolute sucker for a well-scented home, so when I discovered the Pura smart fragrance diffuser, I was immediately intrigued. I’ve dabbled here and there for years with essential oil diffusers and reed diffusers. I own various room sprays. And my addiction with collecting candles holds no bounds; my husband will emphatically agree with the fact that I need another candle like I need a hole in the head. Surely, this smart home fragrance diffuser couldn’t beat out any of these, right?
Wrong. So wrong.
As I type this, a faint scent of Vanilla Berry lingers in our living room, and I’m patiently awaiting the arrival of a second Pura diffuser I just purchased for our kitchen.
Here are all the reasons I love the Pura diffuser system.
Pura Diffuser Review
The big thing that sets Pura diffusers apart from other home fragrance items is the sheer convenience of the Pura app. Other than manually snapping each fragrance bottle into the machine, everything else is done through the brand’s user-friendly app.

The Pura device has two scent chambers so you can experiment and alternate between Pura fragrances, or double up on your favorites.
Customizable Schedule
I’m a big fan of set-it-and-forget it products, and I love that you can create a custom schedule for your Pura devices. Upon set up, you can choose pre-determined schedules like “rise and shine” or “work from home”, but you can also further adjust them or create a custom schedule to fit your lifestyle.
I have one scent running for a few hours in the morning at the start of my day, and then the other scent running in the evening when I’m usually on the couch watching television.
When we’re in our New York City apartment, I use the away mode option to turn off my Pura diffuser so it doesn’t run while I’m gone.
Hassle-Free
I love using essentials oils, which is part of the reason why I love Pura. But I don’t love having to unplug a traditional essential oil diffuser; fill it with water; and then add drops of essential oils to the device.
With a Pura diffuser, you’re able to get the same essential oil fragrance benefits with a hassle-free, less cumbersome experience.
Scent Strength Control
In addition to scheduling, you can also adjust the strength of each fragrance depending on personal preference.
I keep my fragrances on medium, and that’s more than enough to beautifully scent my open entry and living space. (According to the Pura website, the home device is made to fill medium to large spaces like living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms.)
Total Runtime Monitor
One thing I really hate about traditional plug-ins like Glade is that one day they look filled and then before you know it, they’re sitting empty for days.
You can view total runtime of each of fragrance and see exactly how many hours remaining on each of your fragrance vials. (There’s also a subscription service so you always have some on hand.)
Control multiple Devices
Using the Pura app, you can label diffusers by room and adjust or customize accordingly.
Lots of Pura Diffuser Scents
There are tons of Pura diffusers scents you can choose from, including several from major candle brands like NEST New York, Archipelago, and Thymes, along with the cult favorite Volcano scent from Capri Blue. And good news, the cost of each Pura refill is significantly lower compared to candle counterparts in identical scents.
On the website, search by brand, scent type, mood, or selected pre-made pairings.
Honestly, one of the only difficult things about the Pura device is decided which fragrances you want!
Safe and Clean Fragrances
Pura fragrances don’t contain parabens, phthalates, and several other harmful ingredients, making them safe for households with pets and children.
Adjustable Colored Light
If you want, you can adjust the light color of your Pura. Although this isn’t a necessarily a game-changer in functionality, I do have to say it’s quite fun to change the color and vibe when you feel like it.
Streamlined Design
Finding aesthetically pleasing, functional home electronics can be tricky; I appreciate that this is a prettier plug-in device than other iterations out there. And no cords! Just plug your Pura diffuser into any open outlet.

This is a free app; you just need to create an account.
Plug in and Connect to Wifi
Once you’ve downloaded the app and you’re signed in, plug in the Pura device. Follow the instructions to connect it to your WiFi. This was really easy and only took a few minutes to connect.
Add Fragrances to Your Pura Device
Continue following the set-up instructions on the app, then insert each fragrance until you hear a click.
Create and Set Schedules
From there you can create your scenting schedule for each fragrance bottle, and you’re done! You can always come back and change any schedule later with a few button taps.
How Long do Pura Diffusers Last?
Each Pura fragrance vial lasts 120 hours. You can see total usage on the Pura app, so you always know just how long you have left with each refill.
If you run a fragrance every day for 2 hours, it should last about 2 months.
Are Pura Diffusers Safe?
As much as I love the ritual of burning a candle at night when I’m cozy on the couch, falling asleep on the couch is one of my favorite pastimes.
Pura diffusers have no open flame, therefore there’s no fire hazard with them as there is with a candle. Long gone are the days of accidentally falling asleep with a candle burning, or panic-wondering if you blew out the candle before you left the house.
Pura Diffuser Refills
Once your fragrances are empty, it’s super easy to replace them. Unplug the device, take off the cover, remove the existing refills and snap in the new ones.
TL;DR: Is the Pura Diffuser Worth It?
If you’re someone who loves and values a good-smelling home, the Pura diffuser is absolutely worth it.
Although the initial investment is close to $100 ($49.99 for the device itself plus two scents), the fragrance refills themselves cost a fraction of moderately priced name brand candles, and they have longer fragrance time.
For reference, Pura refills are between $15-20, 10ml, and provide 200 hours of scenting. One standard size NEST New York Candle costs $48, with a run time of 50-60 hours.
Overall, the Pura diffuser is much less cumbersome to use than traditional essential oil diffusers where you must fill the diffuser with water, pour in drops, etc. With automatic timers, you also don’t have to worry about accidentally falling asleep or leaving the house with a candle still burning.
Don’t get me wrong, I still like lighting a candle when the occasion calls for it. But if you’re looking for an elevated alternative to traditional Glade plug-ins and enjoy the ambiance of a beautifully scented home, I can’t recommend the Pura diffuser enough.
