Welcome to part one of three of my top beauty products of 2019! I broke this into a series of three posts: skin care, hair care, and makeup. In each post I’m sharing my top 5 products from the year in each category.
First up, my top 5 favorite makeup products from last year…
Agave Lip Mask by Bite Beauty
My lips get so dry, normal lip balm honestly just does not do the trick. I discovered Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask earlier this year when I went into the brand’s Lip Lab to create a custom lip color. (Which, BTW, if you live near a Lip Lab, it is SO much fun. I went in San Francisco then treated my mom to lipsticks at the LA location.) Anyway, if you’re looking for an ultra-hydrating thick balm without stickiness, this stuff is incredible.
I’ll put this lip balm on before applying lipstick, but I religiously use it every night (a thicker later for PM) so that the formula can sink and hydrate my lips overnight.
This is the original agave one; it reminds me of brown sugar or something sweet. Like if I could eat this stuff I would. They also make tinted versions with sheet color that I haven’t tried, but I love the OG. The best part is a little goes a long way, so you’re not using up half a tube in one use.
Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Concealer by Shiseido
Shiseido is an amazing Japanese beauty line. I partnered with them a handful of times throughout the year and their Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Concealer is now a staple in my makeup bag.
This concealer provides full coverage without a heavy feel that can often happen with full coverage makeup products. I put it under my eyes and it never creases. And that’s due to a special formula in there called ActiveForce, which protects against oil, sweat, humidity, etc. It’s truly an amazing concealer that lasts and stays fresh all day.
I also love the convenience of the brush; just dab on a few dots then blend in! I wear shade 203 which is for light to medium skin with a neutral undertone.
Magic Vanish Color Corrector by Charlotte Tilbury
This product really is magic. I use this under my Shiseido concealer, and it totally cancels out any darkness under my eyes. I also use it over red areas (like around my nose) for an overall more even complexion.
It’s not too creamy or heavy (especially if you’re like me and put concealer over) and easy to apply with just a couple of pats and blending with your ring finger.
On days when I don’t want to wear a full face of makeup but also don’t want to look dead, I’ll put this on alone to brighten my undereye area. I wear the medium shade.
Jungle Red Lipstick by NARS
This was one of the first lipsticks I ever bought, and it has been my tried-and-true red for like, 15 years. If you’re looking for a bold lip, you can’t go wrong with a classic red shade, and this flatters most complexions.
Fun fact: Jungle Red was one of the original twelve shades when Francois Nars launched his makeup line.
Pillow Talk Lipstick by Charlotte Tilbury
I had to counter the bright, boldness of Jungle Red with a perfect neutral: Pillow Talk from Charlotte Tilbury. I actually really love the formula of her lipsticks in general, as they seem to be fairly hydrating. But ladies, you really only need two lipsticks in your makeup arsenal if you’re just about the basics: Jungle Red and Pillow Talk.
Just like Jungle Red, this nude is great for all skin tones. I have always had a hard time finding the right nude; this isn’t too light or dark, not too pinky or orangey. It’s just right.
