In partnership with EltaMD
Thanks to three years working in the beauty industry, I’ve become a skin care fanatic. I am always curious about new products and ingredients and love trying new stuff. Just like any girl, I can sometimes get lazy when it comes to removing my makeup at night. But one thing I never skimp on, especially now that I’m getting older, is SPF on my face. Every. Single. Day.
Living in LA means I am constantly exposed to the sun, but did you know you should wear it even on cloudy days? Wearing a broad-spectrum SPF (meaning protection from both UVA and UVB rays) everyday can actually help premature skin aging. Even if you can’t see or feel the sun’s rays, they are there!
The thing about facial sunscreens, especially the everyday kind, is that they can be tricky. However, technology with sunscreen has gotten a lot better, so long gone are the days of thick, sticky sunscreen that feels like it’s clogging your pores. In my search for the perfect facial sunscreen, I found EltaMD, the #1 Dermatologist-recommended professional sunscreen brand. With over 15 professional sunscreens that provide broad-spectrum protection, you can truly find the right one for your skin’s needs.
I tried the UV Broad Spectrum SPF 46 in both the clear and tinted formulas, and both of them felt extremely lightweight without any of that traditional sticky or heavy sunscreen feeling. I have combination skin and both of these are oil-free. A quick note on the clear formula is that is does come out white, but quickly fades into your skin without any chalky white finish. (See below for a quick GIF of me rubbing it in!) The tinted version has been great for me on days when I want to go makeup free. The subtle, sheer color gives me that little extra glow without having to put on a full face.
Another thing I have to point out is that there was no SPF smell, which for me is a major bonus when wearing sunscreen daily on my face. Sure, I love a good sunscreen smell at the beach or while on vacation, but when I wear it daily right around my nose, I don’t want to smell like a coconut.
For me these sunscreens are more than just sun protection, they are solid skin care players that share a handful of the same ingredients as other things in my beauty cabinet. For example, both sunscreens include vitamin B3 to help with dullness and uneven skin tone; lactic acid, which helps reduce breakouts; and hyaluronic acid to keep skin hydrated. Can your sunscreen do that?
