Happy Monday, you! The first full week of month #2 in 2019 is here! I have a feeling this year is going to go by just as quickly as 2018. Eek! And on that note, that means that Valentine’s Day is next weekend.
Matt and I like to celebrate Valentine’s Day either before or after the actual holiday because typically are dinners are more enjoyable. It’s not as crowded, your servers are usually in better moods, and they don’t pile other patrons right on top of you.
Today I’m sharing this cute but casual date night outfit you can wear on Valentine’s Day, or for any date/girls night.
Over the years we’ve celebrated in a ton of ways, from fancy dinners all the way to ordering in pizza. We always just do whatever we feel like that year! It takes the pressure off. And honestly, you don’t have to save your nice dinners for Valentine’s Day. They are almost more special when they’re random. This year, we are trying to plan some big trips and so we are most likely having a more casual date night for Valentine’s Day.
For dates that aren’t super fancy but require more than sweats for takeout, try this look as your next casual date night outfit.
This chenille sweater dress is from the Something Navy collection and makes for the perfect casual date night outfit. You might remember this plaid coat from last month was also from Arielle’s line. I’ve had a decent amount of luck with her things, and overall it’s all priced affordably. Even though this is a dress, I was surprised at how cozy it felt when I first put it on! It feels like you’re wearing a blanket, and nothing is better than style and comfort. It also comes in black but the gray is beautiful.
I’m wearing a small but probably could have ordered the XS for a slightly tighter fit. It comes with a sash for your waist, but I swapped it out for this belt instead. STYLE TIP: you can always remove any belt/sash that comes with a piece to give it a whole new look.
The balloon sleeves here are first felt too big to me, I’m going to be honest. However, after awhile they grew on me and I didn’t even notice. But my favorite detail is the keyhole design on the back. It’s a cute way to show a little skin amongst the heavy chenille fabric and long, statement sleeves.
In the spirit of “not being too fancy but still looking cute” I opted out of heels (what else is new). You guessed it! My Gucci slides here were the winner to complement the black belt. You guys, I know I’ve said this over and over every time I bring up these shoes… They are 150% worth the investment and my most worn shoes I own. When they die I’m absolutely buying another pair.
Let’s take a moment to quickly talk about Matt’s #OOTD! Did you really think I was going to go this whole post without mentioning his look since he’s in these photos?

Matt’s shirt is from Mizzen + Main, a designer we both recently discovered through a partnership with them. I love this striped Henley because it’s a nice little upgrade from plain men’s t-shirts. Matt has so many regular tees, and this is a nice change of pace. The Henley neck adds a little style while still being casual.
He also received a button up dress shirt from them and we are both super impressed with the fabrics. The shirts are both different, SO soft (yes, even the dress shirt). But the best part is that both of them are also machine washable. Can I get a HELL YEAH for no dry cleaning?
This got Matt’s stamp of approval on fit and comfort, so I’m sure any other guy out there would love this shirt, too. For reference he is 5’10” and wearing a large.
