One of my favorite outfits consists of destructed denim and an oversized sweater. It’s effortless, but most importantly, it’s comfortable. I’ve mentioned before that when I feel like I have nothing to wear, I always throw on jeans, a t-shirt, and a leather jacket. That’s totally true, but an easy, oversized cozy sweater like this in the winter with some jeans definitely comes in close second.
This nubby v-neck by Free People is so soft. Honestly, it’s hard to not want to wear it all the time. Right now it’s on sale (yay!) and it comes in 5 other colors, also all on sale. Typically I wear an XS in Free People because I find that their sweaters run are extremely oversized. I’m wearing an XS here and as you can see there’s still plenty of room to be cozy.
I’m such a sucker for anything denim, particularly in black. I have a ton of black jeans in my closet, so in order to “mix it up” with I have a few with destruction. This exact pair by J Brand is about 3 years old, and sadly they don’t sell them anymore. But, I like a few below that are almost identical to this pair! What I love about these jeans (and the ones I’ve linked) is that the destruction only at the knees. I love a good tear or fray on denim for that lived in look, but I don’t like it too be overdone or look too “placed” on the jeans. Do you remember those jeans that had destruction along the entire front of the leg that were popular for a bit?! Ah! These rips give just enough cool-factor without being tacky. Sorry Kim K circa early 2000s.
As for my shoes, I got them as gift from Matt for my 30th birthday! He knows my addiction to fancy footwear, so I was lucky to receive a gift card to Bergdorf Goodman (designer HEAVEN). My birthday was right before fashion week, so it was a fun shopping trip uptown with my mom that day. A pair of classic Chanel flats like these seemed appropriate for a big birthday! (Also found a super similar and more affordable pair here.) They’ve been in my closet until just now because the weather hasn’t allowed it, but now here they are! I was so excited to finally wear them out of the house. When I stepped outside, I smiled. Does that happen to anyone when they wear a new outfit or shoes for the first time?
I love this look because it’s the perfect mix of casual, but also feels a little bit dressed up. You could easily wear this oversized sweater look for a fun day of shopping, but it’s also a great dinner outfit.
