I’ve been living in mostly skinny jeans for years now. But lately I have been wanting to get away from fabric always hugging my ankles. Everything always seems to be new again, and there’s a little resurgence of 1970s style this fall. This includes wide leg jeans. I’ve been searching for a little while now and I finally found the perfect pair.

The second I saw these Citizens of Humanity jeans, I had a feeling these would be the pair of wide leg jeans for me. I am so happy I ordered them. These are high rise, come in a cropped length (aka no hemming!), and have the cutest pleating detail. I love the pleating because it adds a little something without being too much. (These also come in a great washed black/dark gray color!)
Wide leg jeans look chic with blouses for a slightly retro feel, but they look just good with a t-shirt. To me, the silhouette of jeans is already a little more elevated than simple skinny jeans. The effect of wide leg jeans with a t-shirt is feels more put together right from the beginning. I love that you can wear them with a heeled bootie, or with a simple pair of mule slides.

If you’re new around here or haven’t read that little page called “about me” – I spent about 5 years working in the denim industry. So I’ve become super picky about my jeans and the brands that I wear. (If you missed my blog post earlier this year about what to look for in a pair of jeans, click here.) So I had to have this shirt that says, “Blue jean baby.” Yes, like the Elton John song, which is then followed by the lyrics “LA lady” (also true). While I may not be directly working in the denim industry, that’s where I got my first internship, my first job, and my first promotion. I take great pride in identifying with the above. Plus lets just be honest here, the shirt is simply just cute, so anyone can wear it of course!
To finish the look, I added my white leather jacket. It’s old, but I found a similar white style here. If you want something more affordable to achieve the same look, then I really like this off white suede jacket. The silhouette is different than my jacket, but it accomplishes more or less the same look for a fraction of the price. To give myself some height, and to keep with the nostalgic 70s vibes, I opted for brown suede booties and my baby Chloe bag in brown to complement them. My exact booties are old and sold out, but these are almost identical and come in a ton of colors. I may need to get a pair, no?
