What to Wear to Work When It’s Raining

Happy Friday! Sorry for the serious lag on posts this week – I’ve been busy with some other fun stuff so I promise it was for a good reason! If you’re looking to upgrade your office look but not sure what to wear when it’s not quite spring but not quite winter, then you’ve come to the right place!

Today’s post is all about a transitional weather look and what to wear to work when it’s raining. I had a lot of fun styling this look. It’s a little more professional in terms of clothing than I normally wear, but I wanted something very chic and polished for these AMAZING slouchy boots.

To be honest, I actually thought about tossing this post because I’m really late on sharing this outfit. I shot it in New York City about a month ago when I was there for NYFW. However, it kind of seemed like the perfect time to talk about what to wear when the weather is nuts. Since the east coast just got a huge snowstorm and it’s still chilly over here in LA, maybe the blogging gods just really wanted me to share this?

Let’s start with the boots. Slouchy boots are still totally having a moment. You can wear them easily with a coat like I am here, but they also look really cute under a midi skirt for major boho vibes. I was lucky enough to find these boots on sale and they are STILL on sale for 50% off! Major score!

I bought the boots because I realized that I actually didn’t have any tall boots that weren’t suede. For New York in February, I didn’t want to take any chances and so I purchased these. Note: It rained a solid 2 days straight on my trip, so I definitely made the right decision. Rain is always so sporadic this time of year – at least in LA – and it always sucks when you leave inside only to find it pouring when you didn’t wear the right footwear. The smooth leather on theses boots means I no longer have to worry about that. (How did I not have leather boots in the first place?) A sleek block heel adds some height, but most importantly it means that you can wear them all day.

The key to wearing slouchy boots and keeping it professional is the proportions of the rest of your pieces. As you can see here, my boots hit me just under the knee and the coat hits just above it. This is the sweet spot when showing skin with these boots! While my leather mini skirt is, well, mini, this plaid coat helps elongate the overall length. This little plaid number by BB Dakota has the cutest flared sleeves and is actually lightweight enough to wear as a third piece throughout the day. I’m not sure if it’s just me but I felt very Andy Sachs in Devil Wear Prada in this look. I think all I’m missing may be a little hat, no? (P.S. The leather mini is real leather and $150, which is a super price! The coat is also just around $150!)

I finished the look with a basic black sweater and my Saint Laurent satchel. (Linked a couple more affordable versions below!) I thought the plaid lent itself to a polished schoolgirl vibe. Although I’m wearing tights here, you could totally get away with bare legs as long as you keep the coat on to keep it office appropriate. There are options depending on the weather. So there you have it: what to wear to work when it’s raining. Don’t forget your umbrella!
