Menswear for women is always in style, but this year it’s a fall favorite in a huge way. From wide leg pants to full-blown head-to-toe hounds tooth, I feel like everyone on Instagram has been rocking a menswear-inspired piece or two.
One of my favorite bloggers to embrace this look is Jill Lansky of The August Diaries. She more or less inspired what I’m wearing here. In one of her posts from September, she paired a plaid blazer just like this one from H&M with a silk cami. (FYI – I’m wearing my normal size in the blazer, which is a US size 4.) The silk tank is just girly enough when it’s mixed with the menswear blazer. I originally planned on wearing a plain white t-shirt, but upgraded to something equally easy to yet more luxurious. This particular top is from J Brand but it sold out in the exact fabric. They have this updated version in black velvet and I LOVE it for fall. I love toughening up any outfit so didn’t need much convincing when I saw how she wore it.
I adore these block heel shoes! The heel is high enough to give that elongated look of a traditional heel and they are so easy to walk in. I saved a ton of Nordstrom notes and splurged on these because they were classic, but different. The heel curves in the back which gives them some character, yet they’re still timeless. I can’t WAIT to wear these all season. I’m sure they’ll get tons of use.

I love the look of head-to-toe plaid but I wanted to play it safe for my first-go around with the pattern. So, I just tossed on some easy J Brand jeans that I knew I’d feel comfortable in. My favorite thing about them is the cropped flare at the bottom. They’re such a nice alternative to skinny jeans. This exact pair has sold out but I found an almost identical version for wayyyy cheaper here!
If you’re trying a new trend like menswear for the first time and don’t want to fully commit, try this. Play it safe with one piece, then stick to trusty items that make you feel amazing, like I did here.
