Wedding Week: The Little Black Jumpsuit

A little black dress, in my opinion, is life’s solution to all fashion questions. Chances are you probably already have one or 20 already hanging in your closet anyway.

Now, there’s always some controversy as to whether you should or shouldn’t wear black to a wedding. For me, I think if it’s what you feel comfortable in and it’s seasonally appropriate, then you’re fine!

If black is your go-to color of choice when attending weddings and you’re finding yourself trying to shake things up a little bit, why not go for a little black jumpsuit?

A few years ago Matt and I had a summer wedding to attend in NYC, and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what to wear. Black is basically the city’s uniform, so I knew that was the color I wanted to wear. However, I couldn’t find a single LBD that I liked or looked different enough for me. So I ditched that idea and opted for a wide leg black jumpsuit instead.

I have never gotten so many compliments as a wedding guest. Even the bride’s mother loved my look. (Jumpsuits are the new wedding outfit: the maid of honor was in one, too. You heard it here first.) I ended up wearing that same black jumpsuit to another wedding about a year later, and still have it for random occasions when I want something more than a dress, but want to keep it simple.

The jumpsuit I’m wearing here sadly sold out, but fear not! I’ve linked a handful below so that you can still achieve the same look here. (A lot of them are under $100, too. Yay!)

There’s something beautiful and elegant about the simplicity of a black jumpsuit, then upping your game with metallic accessories. Sort of like a modern day Breakfast at Tiffany’s look!

I’d been eyeing these gold heel mules for a long time and finally snagged them during Shopbop’s latest sale. They’re a bit of a splurge, but the versatility outweighs the price here for me. They’re low, AKA easy to wear, and look just as cute with jeans as they do with my look here. (Trust me, I made sure they looked cute with jeans. Gotta get that cost per wear!)

I added a simple gold lariat necklace from Gorjana here to match my shoes and break up the black a bit. Gorjana makes some of my favorite dainty necklaces, but this one is special because you can adjust the length and make it work for any neckline!

How cute are these faux-diamond oversized bobby pins? They come in a pack of seven so you can wear as few or as many as you want at once. Pearl clips are hugely popular right now, but these are less trendy and I think I’ll wear them more over time. I usually just wear my hair down and curled for weddings, and these pins are a fun way to change things up a little bit.

Plenty of women feel their most confident selves in black. If black is your thing, try a black jumpsuit and work it! Or if you’re more into color, don’t miss this post on 26 non-black wedding guest dresses under $200.
