Is there really anything more perfect than a golden glow and a little white dress in the summer? It’s almost Memorial Day, and so the unofficial start to the new season is here.
There’s something so whimsical about a bright white dress when it’s warm out. Maybe it’s just me but a little white dress always seems to put me in a happy mood. Part of me feels like should have taken these photos wearing a flower crown and playing in a meadow. Maybe I’ll do that next time. If there’s one white dress you need to own this summer, it’s this dress. This is my favorite little white dress for summer, but I’m also linking some of my other favorites at the bottom of this post.
One of the main things I love about this dress is its ability to be really versatile. Since it hits just above the knee, it’s a playful length that works for a ton of different occasions. It’s not too conservative with a v-neck and above-the-knee hem, but it also covers enough to still be comfortable in summer’s heat. For me, however, the kicker is the eyelet detail along the sleeves and bottom hem. Because of this detail, you can wear it to a special event (like if you’re a bride-to-be at your shower!) but it works dressed down, too. The juxtaposition of easy Converse sneakers and the eyelets make for a fun mix between tomboy and girly style. And you guys know I love myself a dress with some sneakers.
But today, I took a “somewhere in between” approach for this outfit here and paired it with flat sandals. This look is very weekend brunch to me and I can totally see myself wearing during a day in Laguna Beach or Malibu. This little white dress has a babydoll silhouette with an empire waist and a bit of an A-line shape, so it’s really comfortable and easy to move in.

I didn’t want to add anything too extra to overpower the eyelets (I think they’re pretty enough to stand out own their own) so I kept my jewelry simple with this circle necklace. You can actually adjust the circle up and down, kind of like on of those Texas bolo ties. I had seen this awhile ago and then went shopping in San Diego with my mom and saw it again. I figured it was a sign from the jewelry gods that I should probably just get it. Sunnies are a must in Southern California pretty much year round so I snagged these new tortoise ones from ShopBop for $60. Finally, I added a pop of color with this simple cylinder red bag. The red is bright but the silhouette is sleek, so the whole outfit maintains an easy summer vibe. My lace-up sandals are old, but I found an almost identical version here for the same effect.
Right now I’m in New York City with Matt enjoying the long weekend. We’ll be celebrating faux summer, and trying to find every rooftop bar possible to enjoy the mild weather and pretty views. Cheers!
