Spring Loungewear: Sweat Shorts are the New Sweatpants

You heard it here first: sweat shorts are the new sweatpants. As we start to head into warmer weather there’s no doubt that we’ll all want to adapt to the new season. But one thing that isn’t changing for spring 2021? The desire to be totally comfortable a la loungewear; seasonally appropriate, of course. Today I’m sharing a spring loungewear edit with some of my favorite matching sweat shorts sets.

I was a bit skeptical seeing all of these sweat shorts everywhere, but I’ve come around. When I ordered this gray set, I really thought it would be one of those disappointing purchases. I could not have been more wrong!

Most of the sweat shorts I’ve been seeing are oversized and surprisingly pretty flattering, even if you don’t have long, skinny supermodel legs.

Remember the days when you bought sweat shorts from Abercrombie that squeezed your thighs, and rolled down the waistband? No? Oh yeah, me neither… My point is, sweat shorts for this spring have completely evolved. They’re longer, high-waisted, and effortlessly loose. (I personally don’t think I look great in the biker short trend from the past couple of years, so I’m pretty happy about about this trend.)

SIZE NOTE: This sweat shorts set comes together, so you’re unable to order each piece separately. I am wearing a size small. The sweatshirt definitely runs more oversized than the shorts. The elastic on the waistband fits me *just* perfectly. The waist snug, but not uncomfortable. If sold as separates I maybe would have exchanged the shorts for a medium. However, I didn’t want to size up in this set because the sweatshirt would be way to big as a medium.

On most days, I’ll probably just wear the top and shorts as is, but I love it styled a bit for errands or a casual weekend look. Any oversized jacket works here; even a denim jacket would be cute. To elevate things, I added some dainty gold necklaces and cuffed my sleeves.

My white Birkenstock sandals are actually made from a waterproof, foam-like. They are so lightweight and comfortable. I got them last year but cannot wait to wear them on repeat again this spring and summer. The best part is they’re only $45. If you like them, snag them now because last year once Memorial Day hit, these babies were hard to come by.

I told myself I wasn’t going to buy anymore loungewear, but I love the coral color of this sweat shorts set. Maybe I’ll have to break my no more loungewear rule for this, just once!

My little trick is definitely rolling the sleeves and adding a jacket and some gold necklaces. :).
