I’ve been having so much fun with tons of white and color this summer, but August is halfway over, and fall is coming whether we like it or not. I always get antsy as seasons start to change. Right now, I’m loving and living for summer, never wanting it to end, but also longing for new fall clothing that I’m seeing in stores and online.
So how do you start to transition your wardrobe when it’s still 90 degrees outside? Easy. Opt for soft browns to ease into September.

The Dress
This look all started with this adorable tan Free People dress. It comes in a couple of other colors like white and pink, but this felt different and I figured it would look good with my newly minted Hawaii tan. There’s really cute lace detailing and the hem along the bottom kind of looks like multiple layers since it’s lined.
When I showed up in this dress to shoot it, my photographer Jordan commented on how flattering the dress was, I think in part due to the smocked sides. I love a smocked detail; it’s a bit of a trend this summer but a totally comfortable way to wear something fitted without it being too tight.
SIZE NOTE: Free People sweaters tend to run so oversized, but I took my normal size small and it fit like a dream.

Accessories
I shared these Sam Edelman booties in my last post, but they are a great year-round pair of booties, so they are getting some more love on this post. To me these are the boot equivalent of the nude strappy sandal; they go with everything, and the color and small heel both work together to elongate legs. These booties go well with short pieces like this dress or shorts just as well as they do with jeans. (Wearing my normal size 7.)
I used to think that when you wore a color, you had to match it completely in every aspect. You absolutely don’t! If you have a couple of pieces in the same color family (i.e. my dress, booties, and purse) put them together and work it. Long gone are the days when everything has to be so matchy-matchy.
To break up all of the soft browns in this look, I grabbed a white denim jacket. Unfortunately my exact one is sold out but I linked a couple of affordable options below including a similar cropped style with a raw edge hem.
That’s all for now!
