This polka dot wrap dress ended up being one of my favorite outfits during New York Fashion Week. I don’t know if it’s because the weather was nice enough to not wear a jacket that morning when this was shot, or because this is one of the only wrap dresses where I don’t feel like I’m falling out of it.
Wrap dresses never seem to cover me right, if you know what I mean. Usually they are too wide across the chest. Too tight, too big, too all wrong. But this polka dot wrap dress fits perfectly. Kind of like the last porridge bowl in Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
This is a traditional wrap dress with laces, but I wrapped them one extra time and tied them in the back for this. I belted the dress because I wanted to define my waist. The long sleeves with the slouchy boots looked a little dumpy and so it needed some structure. This dress is by an Australian brand so the sizes can be confusing. I’m wearing an AUS 10 which is a US size small, and it runs TTS. (Bonus: it’s just barely over $100 so it’s such a steal!)
I bought these knee-high slouchy boots on sale after realizing that all of my tall boots were suede and not weatherproof. I am so happy I got them; it ended up raining later this day and into the next. These truly saved me, but kept me warm while staying chic. At first I was worried on how to style them, but they go with a lot. You can wear them with a pair of skinny jeans, with a midi length skirt like I am here, and even with a mini (coming soon). Plus they’re on sale! Okay true, they are still a little pricey. However, given their versatility for future outfits combined with the fact that they saved me from looking like a hobo in the rain, the cost per wear is worth it.
Later in the day when it rained I layered a simple white turtleneck under the dress and added a wool coat. I snapped this photo at Club Monaco on 5th Avenue and it’s the only one I got of the “layered” version of this outfit. It’s not the greatest photo but I wanted you to see how you can wear this dress more than one way.
Since the outfit had a lot of black I added a pop of contrast with my brown mini Chloe crossbody bag. I usually would’ve gone with trusty old black but I love how this looked, even in the rain.
I have a few other looks from NYC that I shot so stay tuned!
