Happy middle of January everyone! Gosh, is 2019 already flying? It seems like the holidays were such a long time ago. I’m settling back into everything, which means back into more regular programming like casual style and denim. (AKA this plaid shirt and jeans outfit.)
I never shoot looks that don’t feel 100% me, but I try to vary what I post because I always want to give you something new.
Today’s outfit is one of my personal favorites. If everything I post here is me, this look is 110% me. It has all of the great elements of my ideal outfit: a perfect pair of jeans, a “not too fancy but you could wear to dinner if you wanted” top, and comfy, classic slides.
I’m obsessed with this plaid shirt. (Currently on sale!) I love that it’s an easy button up, but slightly elevated because of the ruffle. I buttoned it all the way up because I wanted to show off the neckline and ruffle detail. It also still looks just as cute with one or two undone buttons. The western trend is still here, and this shirt is just enough a part of the trend without being too much. I’m wearing TTS – a small.
Style tip: Since buttoning the shirt all the way adds a fancier touch, be sure to tuck the shirt into your jeans. This maintains a polished look. If you want to wear the shirt untucked, undo a couple of the buttons at the top.

I also found a new pair of jeans that you’re going to be seeing NONSTOP on here. I’ve talked about loving AGOLDE jeans too many times to count – and these jeans are by them, too!
This style is called Pinch (my other pair are these in the Riley fit) and these might have just taken first place. They have a tiny flare at the ankle where the jean ends and a high rise. I love the look of high-rise, 100% cotton jeans. These are a little more snug around my hips than the other style I own, but still comfy. The brand did a great job at not making the waist tight, which can be uncomfortable if you’re sitting for a while in non-stretch denim. (By the way this is not sponsored at all by them, I just truly love their jeans!)
The only call out is to be sure you go up a size. Since they are 100% cotton there’s no give. I’m a 4 and usually a 26 and I am wearing a 27. Also, I did get mine hemmed a little – I’m 5’4”.
If I were going to dinner, I love the idea of a pointed toe black pump here. However, I wanted to keep this outfit casual yet polished. So I ditched the heels (casual) and opted for slides over sneakers (polished).
These Gucci slides seem to be everywhere but honestly, they are one of the best designer purchases I’ve ever made. For the longest time I would always buy designer heels until I realized that I rarely wear heels. So there I was, spending a ton of money on things that just sat in my closet.
Over the past couple of years I’ve really been focusing on buying quality pieces I’ll actually wear and that spark joy (hi, Marie Kondo!). Yes, these are an investment, but considering how much I wear them they are much better use of my money than a pair of $800 heels “for special occasions” that never see light. I wear them at least 2-3 times a week and they literally go with everything,
From the second I saw this plaid shirt I knew I wanted to put it in a blog post. I love this look because you can wear it everywhere. Wear it to brunch, a day out shopping, dinner, anywhere you want. And an outfit that you can wear for/to a lot of things gets five stars in my book!
