Let’s talk jean shorts. I love them (full length jeans are a non-go for me in the summer), but sometimes I want to wear something just a little nicer than cut offs. Enter pleated and paper bag denim shorts. Read on to see my favorites and why I can’t get enough of these silhouettes.

Pleated & Paper Bag Denim Shorts
It’s impossible for me to wear full length denim in the summer. Just the thought of putting on jeans in June or July makes me sweat. The obvious alternative here is jean shorts, which are great. But what about those days when you need something just a *little* fancier like cutoffs?
Here’s why I love pleated denim shorts or paper bag waist denim shorts:
- You can still get your denim shorts fix, but both of these silhouettes lend themselves to be a little more polished than regular jean shorts
- Both styles can easily work with whatever you already have in your closet
- I love these for a brunch or summer dinner with a nice blouse and heeled sandals (outfit details below)
- They also still work for a dressed down look; just tuck in a tank and you’re good to go!
My Outfit Details
These shorts are by Boyish and I absolutely LOVE them. The inseam is slightly longer on these, about 15 inches. I also love that the sash has a buckle, since most paper bag denim shorts I see usually just tie. I’m wearing a size 28 here because I size up on all shorts so that they’re more comfortable.
My shorts just over $100 so won’t totally break the bank.
You can get my white cotton eyelet blouse here; always tuck in your shirts if your shorts are high rise. (The exception here is if you’re wearing a cropped top.) I’m wearing a size small.
