Over The Knee Boots & How to Wear Them

Over the knee boots (OTKs as I like to call them) are an essential for fall and winter. They were basically made for this time of year when you can still get away with bare legs and a mini skirt.

My personal favorite kind of OTKs are ones with a stacked heel because, hey, legs look better with heels but the stacked version makes them super easy to walk in.

Regardless of my personal inability to walk in heels and therefore my natural inclination for a stack, I’ve rounded up my favorite over the knee boots in a lot of different price ranges and shared some easy ways to wear them. Keep scrolling to see!

These Dolce Vita stunners hit the mark on everything for me. A stacked heel, tall enough for my 5′ 4″ but not engulfing my legs, and suede. They are so comfy I could walk all day in them. They run true to size, so get whatever you usually wear.

A couple posts back I mentioned over the knee boots as great closet staples for transitional weather. Like I said in that post, the key to making OTK outfits classy and not trashy is the amount of skin you show. Here’s my take on the best ways to pair these with skirts/dresses…

OVER THE KNEE BOOTS

A short dress always looks great with over the knee boots because it really elongates your legs. We are talking Victoria’s Secret model status. Just make sure to keep the skin showing between the top of your boots and your hemline to a moderate space.

If you throw on your outfit and you think whatever clothing item you’re wearing might be too short with the boots, chances are it is. Don’t overthink it. If this is the case, a safe bet is always adding tights.

If you want to play it safe with the skin and skirt game, you can wear a mid-length skirt with OTK boots. I recommend that if this is the case, you get boots that fit tight around the calf (so not as slouchy as these ones) to avoid looking like a dumpy sack of potatoes on your bottom half.

Super easy, right? Now hop to it!
