I always love trying new beauty and hair care products. I swear I’m always on this subconscious quest to find the best bronzer, blush, or purple shampoo out there.
This year I decided that I’m going to start posting reviews on Charmed by Camille. Whether it’s a tried and true favorite that I’ve used for awhile, or something new that I just discovered, I’m going to share it with you! After all, why keep all of these great products a secret?
Today I’m writing an Ouai hair care review featuring a few products from celeb hair stylist Jen Atkin. The lovely ladies over there were kind enough to send me some goodies, and needless to say, I was stoked. Who wouldn’t want product from the woman who works her magic on Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba, and Jennifer Lopez?
This is an honest review of three Ouai hair care products: Smooth Shampoo, Clean Conditioner, and Dry Shampoo Foam. Here’s how they stack up.
Smooth Shampoo – My first impression just opening the bottle was pleasant. Obviously, the packaging is beautiful but the shampoo smells really fresh with a hint of coconut without being too overwhelming. This shampoo is sulfate free, and sometimes I feel like that means you lose on the “foaming action” that gets your hair feeling clean. I have to say that this wasn’t the case here – I made sure to look for this when I was applying and I feel like it got sudsy enough and cleaned my hair thoroughly.
THE VERDICT: Overall, the shampoo smells nice during and after the shower; I didn’t feel like I was missing any suds; and it got my hair clean.
Clean Conditioner – The scent of the conditioner I felt was a little stronger (but equally as yummy!) than the shampoo. I’m wondering if perhaps it had something to do with the product line, since this was from the CLEAN line and the shampoo was from SMOOTH, but I’m not sure. Either way, I loved it, and just like the shampoo is wasn’t too much. I feel like this conditioner almost had a whipped consistency to it when I dispensed it, and it was super creamy. I used about a quarter size on my shoulder length hair. Even while wet, the ends of my hair were instantly hydrated. Post blow-dry, I loved this conditioner even more.
THE VERDICT: I can honestly say that no conditioner has ever been able to maintain that much moisture after drying my hair. I’m a fan of not washing my hair often and even after 2 1/2 days of no washing, the ends of my hairs still felt super soft. I’m officially obsessed with this conditioner and have already convinced my friend to buy it.
Dry Shampoo Foam – I was really looking forward to trying this Dry Shampoo Foam because so many people were talking about it. It’s also pretty innovative considering that it’s not a powder dry shampoo but is said to achieve the same result as them. Use it just like you would a regular mousse, but apply it at your roots and then massage it as if you were washing your hair in the shower. It goes on wet and then somehow magically dries after cleansing your hair.
THE VERDICT: I’m a big traditional dry shampoo girl and I loved that there wasn’t any residue left on my hair, which happens by default with a powder. It doesn’t weigh your hair down either, which was nice. Having said that, this took a bit more time to style since you have to massage the product into your hair until it dries. I’m going to try this a few more times to get a hang of it, but I’ll probably reach for the good old powder version when I need to get out the door in a flash.
So, which of the 3 was my favorite? Without any reservation, I’m giving the gold medal to the Clean Shampoo. I’m actually sitting here with wet hair while I write this still wondering how my very bleached blonde ends are so so soft.
