One Piece Two Ways: The Denim Dress #1

I shared a little sneak peak of this denim dress on Instagram Stories a week or so ago and SO many of you sent messages my way asking where to buy. So without further delay – it’s this dress from Free People! (Sizes are going fast so I linked a bunch of different retailers at the bottom of this post.)

A denim dress is such an easy piece in any closet, which is why this darling little one is the centerpiece of May’s “One Piece Two Ways” series.

Today I’ll share all of the outfit details in the photo below, but be sure to check back tomorrow to see how I change things up. *Inserts shameless plug to sign up for emails so you don’t miss the post*

The Denim Dress

Okay, first up – the dress! This lightweight long sleeve denim dress has a cute little tiered appearance and an A-line shape. Okay, great! What does all of that mean? Why should you care?

  • A lightweight denim fabric means this won’t be too heavy come June. No sweating here!
  • Long sleeves are perfect for in-between weather. I like to wear them rolled up, but if you get chilly then undo them. Options, my friend!
  • The tiered look (AKA the horizontal seams/pieces) makes this more than just your everyday shirtdress. It’s a tiny detail that adds just the right amount of femininity to this dress
  • An A-line silhouette is one of my favorites simply for comfort reasons. You can wear it as is, or define a waist by adding a belt.

And maybe the most important call out here is a happy price point of $108.

A note on sizing:If you have a larger chest, consider ordering your normal size and one size up so you can compare the fit. This dress fit snug to my body in the chest. I often times have problems with button up styles, and while I’m in my normal size (a small), a medium would have given me a little more wiggle room up top. Usually I’ll have to pick between a gap between the buttons or an oversized fit. I wanted this to fit in the shoulders and the gap was SO small here – nothing a safety pin couldn’t fix and was not a deal breaker for me.

The Accessories

These taupe western booties from Sam Edelman are great for days when it’s not hot enough to wear open-toe sandals. I love the color because when worn with something short like this dress, a nude will always elongate legs. Look for booties that hit at the ankle, the slimmest part of the leg, to avoid cutting them off. (I also make the case for these as must-have spring show staples – if you missed that post click here.)

In keeping with the subtle western spirit of my denim dress and booties, I finished this look with a red bandana.

I’m switching things up with this dress tomorrow – be sure you don’t miss it!
