Nordstrom Anniversary Sale | Investment Pieces

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is a great time to stock up on basics, but it’s also a great time to #treatyoself to some investment pieces that you wouldn’t otherwise buy.

At least for me, this is what I do. I treat myself to one or two investment pieces that I know I would never buy for full price.

Read on to find my favorite investment pieces from this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale as well as some key things to look for before before pulling out your credit card.

When you’re going to pay more money than you normally would for an item, need to make sure it’s really worth it. Look for these three things:

  1. Style/Cut – Take a look at the piece, is it a pair of super trendy jeans with holes in them? Is the item super trendy? If it’s a classic shape, say, a peacoat, then move on to step two.  If you don’t think the piece can live beyond the current season, then it’s not worth it. Take the “steal” route instead of splurge.
  2. Fabric – Pick up the item you’re looking at and feel it. Look at the seams. Is the item lined, or does it look flimsy? Make sure you feel comfortable with the workmanship. Often times, workmanship and fabric makes the item more expensive (in addition to just a name brand), so make sure you’re 100% okay with everything before buying.
  3. The Matching Rule – If you buy this, then will you need to buy other pieces just to wear it? If it doesn’t match with at least 3 other things in your closet, it’s a no go.
  4. Pure Joy – Okay, I have to say it. Sometimes, you can throw one and two out the window if you really, really, love the piece. I recently read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo and have started implementing her “spark joy” philosophy for everything in my life, from shoes, to food, to friends. If the piece sparks true joy to you, then by all means get it. You do you, just don’t go too crazy and get yourself in debt (hence why I have rule 3).

Now back to that Nordstrom sale. Here are my top investment pieces to shop before prices go up on August 8.
