What is Miracle Balm?

According to the Jones Road website, Miracle Balm is a multi-use product that provides hydration and a glow and/or tint to cheeks, lips, eyes, or wherever you want to apply it.

Although it contains some skincare ingredients like Jojoba oil and Argan oil for hydration (we love products that use crossover ingredients here at CBC), this is very much a makeup product.

Jones Road Miracle Balm is $38 for 1.76 ounces. It’s not cheap, but it’s also not the most expensive makeup product out there. (The jar is pretty large, so I generally don’t feel like this price is unreasonable given the size.)

How to Use Jones Road Miracle Balm

The brand encourages you to break the seal, AKA the hard top layer of the balm, by firmly pressing your index finger into the formula and then warming it up in your fingers before application. I was super excited for this moment – I mean, who doesn’t guiltily love using new makeup for the first time? However, it was a lot harder to press than anticipated, and a little anti-climactic.

The texture is exactly what you’d expect from a balm; think hardened coconut oil or a waxy lip balm like cold Carmex once you break the seal.

My Initial Thoughts

I have combination skin, so I like a healthy glow without an overly dewy appearance. I love multi-use products, so I applied this to my cheekbones and eyelids.

The formula isn’t sticky, per se, but there is definitely a bit of tackiness so it can grip onto the skin and stay in place. It does leave your fingers messy, so make sure you have a makeup wipe or tissue on hand near you.

At the time of this initial review, the brand’s product page mentioned that you could use it on eyelids. They have since changed the product information and now explicitly mention not to use it there.

It felt way too heavy on my eyelids, so this is probably a good change that the brand stop recommending usage here.

I was, however, happy with it on my cheeks, even after letting it settle into my skin. It provided my cheekbones with a nice subtle sheen, with a dewy look and hydrated appearance. Although I could feel the presence of the product on my cheeks, it didn’t bother me as much as it did on my eyelids.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the color pigmentation, or lack thereof, at least with the Dusty Rose shade. Although the brand uses appropriate words like “tint” and “glow” to describe the results, somehow I expected a bit more color delivery from my hands to my skin. It was there, and although pretty, definitely subtle.

The Verdict

Although I loved this on my cheeks for a sheer, healthy glow, it may not be for you if you have oily skin or if you’re looking for a highly pigmented heavy color.

If you have oily skin you may want to avoid Jones Road Miracle Balm completely. The balm isn’t necessarily greasy, but I don’t think it would wear too friendly on oilier skin types. 

If you’re looking for a product to give you a subtle tint and/or glow, Miracle Balm fits the bill and does provide a subtle glow. However, if you want a multi-use product that delivers lots pigment like a cream blush, you’re probably going to be disappointed. 

Normally, I’d recommend building up color by layering the product, but due to the balm formula, I think this would end up pretty greasy feeling on anyone, even with dry skin. 

Overall, I do like the subtle highlight and dewy appearance that Jones Road Miracle Balm left on my cheeks. I’m happy to see they updated the product description as not intended for eyelids, as it was an absolute a no-go for me.
