Fall Work Wardrobe Update

At the start of every school year, I always like to take myself on my own little back to school shopping trip to update my fall work wardrobe. Summer is great, but it doesn’t lend itself to particularly chic office dressing.

For me, I always end up in a dress and a pair of open toe shoes and never really end up thinking outside of the box. I work in a relatively casual work environment, and needless to say, it sometime makes me lazy.

Each new school year means a fresh start, even for adults. I always like to take this time to realign on my goals and remind myself not to get lazy when it comes to my office wardrobe. Summer activities and vacations are over, and it’s quiet time before the holidays to really focus on yourself. It also doesn’t hurt that I am so sick of wearing my summer work pieces. Back to school season means new fall silhouettes that reignite my excitement to get dressed in the morning.

At 29, I’d like to think that I own what most women would consider “office wardrobe staples.” Now that I have all of them, it’s time to have some fun with my work clothes by purchasing pieces that are still appropriate but more fashionable. I know not everyone is able to have creative freedom in their work uniform, so this post is definitely geared to those lucky enough to wear business casual. My husband is a lawyer and I want to cry every time I think about what I would have to wear if I worked in a super corporate environment. But, I digress.

Here’s a roundup of the pieces that I’m investing in to upgrade my fall work wardrobe this year.

  1. A pencil skirt with a bit of of flair, like this Club Monaco fringe pencil skirt
  2. A classic bag with unexpected colors
  3. A crisp cotton shirt with a little bit of drama
  4. Heeled ankle booties to add a little mod to any outfit
  5. A blazer in a textured fabric like velvet or jacquard
