Honestly, there’s not much to this outfit. It’s not too groundbreaking but it’s easy to wear, which is why I’m sharing it.
To me, this is a perfect fall outfit because it’s based off of great basics: black jeans, a cozy sweater, and over the knee boots. Sometimes my simplest outfits are my favorites.
Instead of going detail by detail of everything, I decided to do a little something different for this post. To me, this outfit is more about showing you my formula for a basic yet quality seasonal outfit. So while I’m going to feature the item’s I’m wearing here (the first image in each set), I’m also picking out 5 of each of these basics. Meaning 5 sweaters, 5 jeans, and 5 over the knee boots. By the end of this post you’ll go away with 6 easy, cozy outfits to get you through the year. How fun is that?
This is a new kind of post that I’m trying where I share some dressing formulas and then give ideas for each element of the outfit. I’d love to get your input if you want more of these. Please let me know in the comments below!
Piece 1: The Sweater. Usually I’m a fan of building outfits based on shoes, but I make the exception for sweaters. I first decide how cozy I feel like being and then take it from there. I personally love oversized sweaters because they look the best with skinny jeans due to the proportion of having something larger on top and tight on the bottom. This Vince sweater I’m wearing is so soft and definitely a splurge, but I love it. It’s a perfect oat color and so it’s a nice departure form white and black.

Piece 2: Over the Knee Boots. I’m saving jeans until last because for me, I need to know the color of my shoes before I put on pants. Will my boots go better with black jeans or blue? Choosing between blue or black is a lot easier than shoe selection! These boots are old from Dolce Vita, but was able to find them at Saks Off Fifth and still available in a ton of sizes! (P.S. they were originally $200 and now only $89!)
Piece 3: Jeans. I’ve become a huge fan of high waist jeans. My favorite still remains to be these this black pair by J Brand. Like I said above, this is the last step because it’s the easiest – black or blue. In the fall I prefer darker blue with OTK boots instead of lighter washes because there’s less contract between the pants and boots.
