Oh, the weekend. I have a tendency to be on either side of the spectrum when it comes to the weekend. I’m either the laziest person ever and don’t get dressed until about 3pm/ever OR I’m up at 7 am and I don’t stop until it’s time to go to bed. I’m definitely working on finding a little bit of balance but I’m a work in progress.
On my better days when I find time for errands and some relaxation, I have a no fail weekend style formula that results in comfy clothes for errands that are cute enough to show up wherever the wind takes me. Like, to this ice cream cone.

Denim Alternative Shorts – During summer, I can’t wear jeans. Although they are my bottoms of choice in the fall and winter, I just get way too hot. Lately, I’ve been really into denim alternatives for shorts like these soft green ones I’m wearing here. They basically feel like sweat shorts but socially acceptable beyond the couch.
A Comfortable Shirt or Blouse – It’s really easy for me to throw on a regular t-shirt and head out the door, but to me this can really make or break a weekend outfit. There’s definitely nothing wrong with a t-shirt and shorts, but if you’re looking to have an outfit, ditch the tee. I’m not saying to grab your most glam top; it’s still the weekend after all. A comfortable button up shirt like the one I’m wearing here does the trick. It’s comfy and lightweight, but less basic than a regular t-shirt. Try a cute tank constructed of sturdier cotton for more structure than a regular one.
Details – Now that your have cute, denim alternative bottoms and a blouse to boot, don’t forget about details. If this means changing your purse to be a little more color coordinated while being out and about, do it. Take the extra 3 minutes to switch your stuff. One of my favorite ways to complete a look is adding a bandana. It ties everything together (no pun intended) and acts as a third piece to look put together. I also love adding stackable rings or a necklace. Be sure to give yourself a glance in the mirror before you head out – it’s always at this moment when I realize I need a ring or something.
I find that if I follow these 3 rules, then I feel put together and ready for anything on the weekend. Even if my hair is a mess and in a bun, everything else ups the ante to make my bun less “lazy girl” and more “effortless weekend style.” I’m wearing espadrilles here (my go-to shoe of summer), but since the rest of the outfit is thought out, I could’ve even gotten away with flip flops and achieved generally the same look.
