I’ve lived in Southern California the majority of my life and this year I will have lived in Los Angeles for 12 years. Sometimes I forget that I live in LA. Just like most people tend to do, I’ve totally taken for granted that I live here, and forget to realize that this city is a place where so many people visit.
Just this morning, Matt and I hiked to the Hollywood sign for the first time ever. How have I not done this sooner? As we were driving to the base of the mountain, for the first time in a really long time I noticed all of the palm trees. Lately I’ve been feeling very antsy about living in LA, but this morning while we were heading up the street, I remembered why I love this city. It really is the land of palm trees.
I absolutely hate the traffic here and the struggle is real trying to find any kind of parking, so let’s just get that out of the way. But once you manage to cross town and get to wear you want to go, it’s pretty cool. From hipster Silverlake vibes to Beverly Hills, Los Angeles really has a spot for everyone.
Southern California girls also have a really distinct sense of style. We like to dress up when we can, but there’s something really effortless about California style. We can throw on jean shorts, a graphic tee and sneakers and somehow still manage to make our outfit look a little rock ‘n’ roll, a little boho.
This shoot from Venice Beach is one of my favorites because I think it perfectly embodies what most people think of when they think of a California summer. With my vintage fit Levi’s and a ringer tee, I can’t help but feel a little retro at the place that invented skateboarding. All that’s missing here is an ice cream cone, and make some roller blades.
Like any California girl, I tend to feel the most comfortable in jeans. I’m obsessed with these ones because they are high rise and have an old school denim feel to them. When I want to be a little fancier, I’ll wear them like I did here. Just a quick note, I went a size up on these jeans since they have barely any stretch.
There’s a reason why The Beach Boys wrote a song about California girls, so I’ve decided that I need to start being a better tourist in my own city.
