A Fall Staple: The Black Sweater

Some things in life  just make sense. Peanut butter and jelly. Cheese and crackers. Black sweaters and fall. While many of you already swapped in your fall sweaters, I’m over here patiently waiting for temperatures to drop. It looks like by end of next week we may have some decent fall weather, at least for LA. However, all of this heat doesn’t mean that I haven’t started shopping for fall. Want to know why? Because the second Southern Californians see a raindrop or a cloud, every local store becomes immediately sold out of all things autumn.

So usually, I like to stock up on fall pieces before this happens. Which means right now. In 90 degrees. One thing I always replenish every year is this fall classic – the black sweater.

As a self-proclaimed black clothing junkie it should be no surprise that each fall, a black sweater is on the top of my must-have list. There’s nothing I love more than a cozy sweater with a pair of comfy pants/leggings and some booties. To me, a black sweater in the fall is like a white t-shirt – if all else fails, throw it on.

This particular black sweater could very well be the softest sweater I’ve ever owned. Wow, it’s that soft. At first I thought the turtleneck might be a bit itchy but I couldn’t have been more wrong. It’s like wearing a cloud! FYI, if you live in sub-zero fall/winter temperatures, you’re going to need to layer. However, for a mild fall climate for Los Angeles, this is perfect for the day. I’m wearing my normal size (size small) so I recommend the same.

I love the bell sleeves on this sweater. They’re large enough to be noticed but don’t get in the way of anything. They also have a cute little cut slit on the arms, too. My favorite part (always!) is the price – it’s $39! I’ve been trying to only splurge on things that I know will last awhile (shoes, bags, and jeans) and stick to more moderately priced pieces. I’d say $39 falls into my new mindset, no?

I always used to pair black with dark or black denim, but over the past couple of years I’ve learned to love how it looks with faded washes. One of my favorite light wash jeans are classics, too! These Levi’s are the perfect faced out wash with a high waist. The kick flare at the bottom makes them a fun alternative to straight leg or skinny jeans. And of course these beautiful block heels made their way back into the photos. If you missed my first post with them you can find it here.

I’ll get tons of use out of this sweater, that’s for certain. I’ll probably wear it most like how you see here, but can dress is up with some non-denim pants, or even over a slip dress for something different. What’s one thing you always replenish every fall?
