Okay, I know LA is in the middle of a heatwave, but the other morning was cloudy with a slight breeze in the air. This got me really excited for fall even though I know it’s pretty far away for me. Somehow, I landed on Pinterest searching for fall trends, and to nobody’s surprise, plaid is huge next season. I decided to get ahead of fall fashion by sharing 3 plaid coat outfit ideas with this plaid coat from Bernardo (on sale now) – just in case you’re like me and impatiently waiting for cooler temps.
This is a paid partnership with Bernardo, but all opinions are my own.
My Red Bernardo Plaid Coat
Like I mentioned above, this plaid coat from Bernardo is currently on sale. It’s part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (now open to the public) and the savings on this coat are incredible; it’s nearly 50% off! The sale price is $149.90, and the regular price is $270. Prices go up August 31, and you know the cold is coming, so save on this now.
I love this plaid coat. The navy and red color combination is a fresh departure from the traditional black and camel options I usually see, but the silhouette is classic. As witnessed in the three plaid out outfit ideas in this post, you can dress it up or down, and wear it for everything in between.
The notched collar and double-breasted detailing make this a fashionable coat buttoned up on super chilly days, but equally chic unbuttoned.
SIZE NOTE: I grabbed a medium in this for layering. I’d rather my coats fit a bit loose, because I hate the feeling of too-tight sleeves. This is my fifth Bernardo coat; they make great coats from puffers to rain coats to wool coats.
Plaid Coat Outfit Ideas
With White Sneakers – Casual
A tee, jeans, and white sneakers work just as well in fall with a plaid coat as they do alone in the summer.
Don’t overthink it here and stick with your favorite basics. This graphic tee makes things fun, but if it’s too much then go with a plain tee. I like Madewell tees because they’re affordable. I then threw on some comfy light skinny jeans and all-white Velcro sneakers for a crisp street-style edge.
The plaid coat makes this the perfect transitional outfit from summer to fall. Extra cool-girl points if you add a slouchy beanie.
With A Chunky Sweater – Chic and Polished
I paired these brown booties (under $99, also on sale) with dark denim and a cozy ivory sweater. I opted for neutrals to play off the fall tones of red and navy.
Dark skinny jeans are a fall staple, and these are only $68 from Everlane (I’m wearing a 27 in the ankle length). This look is easy and casual, but the darker denim adds a bit of polish that also complements the navy.
I can’t wait until it gets cool enough to wear this! To me this is the perfect casual chic fall outfit. Just putting this together and taking this photo made me ready for fall.
With a Black Dress – A Little Fancy
Don’t think that just because this plaid coat is red and navy, that you can’t wear it with black.
By pairing this with an all black layer underneath, the plaid really pops!
I always loved this outfit from The Devil Wears Prada, and every year find an excuse to wear some tall boots with tights and a black sheath dress. Of course Andy’s outfit is all black, but adding the plaid is just as chic in my opinion.
So there you have it! Three easy plaid coat outfit ideas featuring this coat from Bernardo. I love the versatility of this coat since that you can wear it casually on a cold day or a little bit dressed up at night.
Are you ready for fall, or are you more of a “summer forever” kind of gal?
