Summer in Los Angeles can be kind of confusing. It’s always really hot here during the day, but we lack a bit in the humidity arena when it comes to warm summer evenings. I know humidity is a pain for most, especially during the day when you have heat and humidity, but I do appreciate an east coast evening so that I don’t always have to change.
So what does one wear in LA for a date night? My typical summer date night outfit includes a pair of comfy jeans, an airy top like this white off the shoulder top, and a pair of sandals (heels, if I’m really going cray).
I took a little bit of a break from these A GOLD E jeans because truthfully, I wore them so much in the spring that I got a little sick of them. But, they really are the perfect pair of high waist denim, so when I want to wear jeans these are alwaysthe first pair I pick. I went a size up since these are 100% cotton and have zero stretch.
Los Angeles is pretty casual and it’s really easy to get into a rut of a drapey t-shirt for dinner. I always try to make a little bit of an effort for dinner when I can, and a big focus of mine lately has actually been buying more tops and less t-shirts. I’m a sucker for a lived-in graphic tee but wearing a blouse, even a cotton one like this one, dresses up the most casual of jeans and turns a look into an outfit. This white off the shoulder top is currently on sale and only $50! It’s crisp 100% cotton and so even though it does have long sleeves, it’s great for a summer evening. It would also look totally adorable during the day with a pair of shorts! Need try that next.
To finish the look I accessorized with these fun statement earrings from Sugarfix by BaubleBar. Normally I’m not really into statement earrings but I loved the classic black and white combo on these. This exact pair is sold out but this is a similar look, also in black and white. ($13 – a total steal if you ask me.)
Like I mentioned above, sometimes I add a heel, especially if Matt and I are going to a nicer restaurant. I wear flats about 90% of the time because it’s easier, so when I do wear heels, I try to find a thicker heel rather than a skinny stiletto. These sandals were definitely a splurge but worth it as they’ve been my go-to heel for the summer. And I love the tie at the ankle; it’s different from a buckle closure so it makes them a little different.
Since I was heavy into the black and white here, I added my little baby Gucci bag to finish the look. (It sold out, but I found this really cute Rebecca Minkoff one that’s way more affordable and achieves the same thing. This outfit is still fairly casual but it’s also more put together than my average uniform of jeans and a t-shirt.
