Date Night Stripes & Our Favorite Dinner Spots in LA

I love going out on a date night with Matt. I’m usually too tired from the week to do anything on a Friday, but we try to get out of the house for something on Saturday, even if it’s not a fancy dinner.

Los Angeles has so many great places, and I LOVE to eat. I workout just to eat. If I wasn’t a fashion blogger, I’d probably blog about food and just eat my way through the city. Even when Matt and I travel, our trip always starts with me Googling, “best places to eat in _____.”

It’s been awhile since I wrote about non-fashion topics, and all of this typing about eating is making me starving. So now, all I can think about is where I want to go to dinner this weekend. I’ve decided to change things up for this post, so today I’m sharing my favorite restaurants Matt and I eat at in our home of Los Angeles.

Here are my top dinner spots for every kind of dinner date (AKA order at the counter in your sweatpants to the fancy kind when you want to celebrate).

From casual to special occasions, here we go:

Sweetgreen – This is our weekday go-to whenever we don’t really want to cook but still want to go somewhere. I have a pretty long commute, so we rarely go out to dinner during the week, but this is on my way home and an easy pick up with the most delicious salads. It’s also perfect for a weekend lunch or a lazy night in when you want to be healthy.

Village Pizza – On Fridays when we do go out, Matt and I love going to eat pizza. It’s such a comfort food, and after a long work week it’s always exactly what we need when we want to splurge. Matt will never turn down pizza. This is New York pizza that made it all the way to the west coast. Get the garlic knots, too.

Gracias Madre – This place is a trendy plant-based Mexican restaurant. I know what you’re thinking – what? – but if I didn’t tell you there was no meat on the menu, you wouldn’t even notice. They have an amazing patio that I LOVE when it’s a warm night. If you’re not into vegan Mexican food, at least go for their margaritas and pretty interior.

Mercado – For nights when we want actual Mexican food, we go to Mercado. There’s a couple of locations in Los Angeles but our favorite is the one near Fairfax. Tacos, salad, tostadas, and basically everything else you want. And guac. Lots and lots of guac.

Osteria La Buca – Delicious Italian in a really unassuming location, this place houses my favorite pasta dish ever: caccio e pepe. Other favorites of ours include the pizza, fresh ricotta, and their broccoli with a cracked egg on top which is to die for. This is a good location for us when we want to dress up a bit while still keeping it casual (think just jeans and a nice top).

Sidebar – Matt and I love coming here. It’s a cute little bar inside The Beverly Wilshire hotel and has the most fantastic people watching. I love getting dressed up and walking down Rodeo Drive right before the shops close, then ending the night here with a drink. We also come here for dinner and share a handful of apps (AKA the cheese plate and sliders).

CUT – Just across the hall of the same hotel is our favorite place to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and any kind of special celebration. Wolfgang Puck sure does know how to curate a steak selection, and one time I even sprung for the Wagyu beef. It was amazing. You know what else is amazing? That macaroni and cheese you can order for the table. It’s okay, just order it for yourself. I won’t judge.
